Beatrix Montanile , aka "Trixie" to her friends and students, is the founder of ATMA SHAKTI YOGA. She first discovered the
benefits of yoga over 20 years ago, after the birth of her son, Josh. "I soon learned that through maintaining a regular practice, the
strains and stresses of motherhood were rendered much more manageable." This lesson was to be repeated many years later while living
in Los Angeles California, when the pressures of running her own retail business drove her quickly back to the mat. "It was the only
time in my hectic, goal-driven lifestyle that I was able to experience some form of inner peace and emotional balance."
By the Fall of 2003, Beatrix realized that in order to deepen her practice the time had come to give yoga her full commitment. After
selling off all of her worldly possessions ( including her beloved Jeep Jerokee ) she headed, with an open ticket (and a 6 month supply of
Imodium), for India to immerse herself in the study of yogic sciences and philosophy. She was to spend almost 2 years there.
It was during this magical time, that she met and trained with some very extraordinary teachers; V. Venkatesha of the Atma Vikasa
School of Yogic Sciences, V. Sheshadri at the Mysore Mandala in Mysore and Vijay Amar at his Universal Yoga studio in Dharamsala.
She received a Teaching Certificate in Intergrated Ashtanga in Mysore and completed her Apprenticeship Teacher Training on Safe
Adjustment Techniques in Ashtanga Yoga with V. Sheshadri. An article on her experiences with Vijay Amar appeared in California's
popular yoga magazine, The YogiTimes. On a more recent visit to India, Beatrix gained much insight and appreciation for the Iyengar
Yoga System through Sharat Arora, head teacher of the Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Center in Arambol, Goa
"Learning from these masters reformed my ideas of what my body was capable of. Throughout
the course of my life, I had suffered many injuries to my neck and back, leaving me in chronic
pain and discomfort. Daily yoga practice transformed me both physically and mentally so that
I no longer have any need for pain medication. I am living proof that old injuries do not have
to mean a life of limitations."
When Beatrix re-located to Toronto, she introduced herself to the community as a yoga
teacher by initiating a free out door yoga program. These popular summer time classes have
now come to be simply known as Park Yoga. She also holds a variety of classes at her home
studio on Jones Avenue in Leslieville, as well as guest teaches for various communities and
studios throughout Toronto, Los Angeles and abroad and her "Have Mat-Will Travel" program,
brings yoga directly to the corporate world. Beatrix is certified in Thai Yoga Massage and
is a member of The Natural Health Practitioner's Association of Canada.
