ARAMBOL, GOA - IYENGAR YOGA (Feb 5th-20th, 2009)
With its glistening sandy beaches, swaying palms, abundance of fresh
fruit and fish and artisan culture, Goa's attraction is almost mystical. It
is a place where people feel free to shed (sometimes quite literally)
their inhibitions in order to better commune with nature and each
other....It is easy to slip into Goa's warm effortless existence. There is a
Mediterranean atmosphere in the quaint towns with their red-tiled
roofs & narrow streets and the charming fishing villages surrounded by
coconut groves. Latin influence fuses with Indian color to produce an
enchanting hybrid. Goa's traditions of language, religion, dances have
remained firmly entrenched despite the end of Portuguese rule in
1961. After yoga practice, days maybe spent lounging on the beach,
visiting the many colorful market places and cafes, sight-seeing or
Parasailing.
all levels of asana classes but more significant
in his development was his assistance in the
daily therapy sessions serving countless
patients. His fusion of this experience with his
extensive study of western medicine greatly
influenced his evolving yoga technique and
sharpened his unique yoga therapy skills.
During this time he was living in a Buddhist
community where he became interested in
Vipassana meditation. With this added insight,
Sharat made a breakthrough in understanding
what yoga techniques were meant to bring
about in himself and others. Sharat's clear,
precise instructions, constant attentiveness, and
therapeutic knowledge for treating ailments
and injuries are combined with a philosophical
depth which make his special teachings unique.
