addition to a Passport (which must be valid for at least 6 months from date of departure), you will also need an India Tourist Visa.
These can be gotten only through the India Consulate and in the US or Canada, the cost is around $62. Contact the embassy nearest
you to find out how long the process will take but to avoid complications, plan on applying no later than 2 weeks prior to your
departure date. You will have to provide a completed application form (which can be downloaded off the Internet) along with your
passport plus 2 regulation size passport photos. All Tourist Visas are good for 6 months from the date of issue. To download a
Canadian visa application visit The Consulate-General of India's website: www.cgitoronto.ca .
HOW TO GET THERE
Goa:
If you are staying for the full 30 days, book your flight to arrive in Mumbai and depart from Bangalore. When traveling from
the U.S. or Canada, you should plan to leave at least 2 days prior to retreat commencement. From Mumbai, you must catch a domestic
flight into Goa's airport. There are several airlines that fly daily into Goa but we recommend Deccan Airways. There is a daily
flight leaving Mumbai for Goa at 5:10 AM. Since most international flights arrive in Mumbai around midnight, taking this early flight
eliminates the need to stay overnight in a hotel. Reservations for these flights can be made online and depending on how early you
reserve, the 1 hour flight can cost as little as $50. Go to: www.airdeccan.net
Mysore: If you plan on joining the retreat during the latter part, you will need to book a flight into Bangalore. Here it will be
necessary to stay overnight before catching the 11 AM Shatabdhi Express Train into Mysore. Arrangements can be made for you to
stay in a clean, inexpensive local hotel that costs around $20 a night.
Travel: We recommend that you make your travel arrangements with Karen, at World Wide Tours. She is well informed regarding the
requirements for this trip and will ensure that you get the best rates possible. Call: (416) 264-2551
ACCOMMODATIONS &
GROUND TRANSPORTATION
In Goa we will be living in bamboo huts with common toilettes and showers. As it is very hot and humid, hot water is generally not
provided unless requested in advance whereupon it will be delivered to you in a bucket. The shower consists of a shower head and a big
bucket and small bucket. The big bucket gets filled up with water and the smaller hand-held bucket is used for rinsing....it's a lot of
fun once you get the hang of it. In India, most toilettes are squatter style, some are sit-down. Whatever the case, using them will
always be and adventure! In Mysore, the accommodations where you will be staying are locally owned or family operated
establishments. In some cases there are communal kitchens where you will be staying so you will also be able to prepare some of your
own meals. Single accommodations will be provided whenever possible but they cannot be guaranteed. We request that you to remain
flexible in this regard.
